3.1 The cells

A cell is the smallest unit of a living thing capable of performing the three vital functions: nutricion, interaction and reproduction.

Cells have some characteristics in common wich are allways present:

  • Plasmatic membrane
  • Cytoplasm
  • DNA or genetic material

 TYPES OF CELLS

The cells can be classified into prokaryotic cells or eukaryotic cells

  • Prokaryotic cells. Their DNA placed in the cytoplasm. It is the characteristic cell of Monera kingdom organisms (bacteria).
  • Eukaryotic cells. Their DNA is placed inside a nucleus. It is the characteristic cell of protoctists, fungi, plants and animals.
Eukarytic cells have organelles and can be divided into animal eukaryotic cells and plant eukaryotic cells. Plant eukaryotic cells have exclusive organelles. This characteristic organelles in plant eukaryotic cells are choroplast and cellular wall.

ACTIVITIES

1) Write the three vital functions
2) Which are the exclusive organelles of plant eukaryotics cells?
3) What structures have in common all types of cells?
4) Copy all this information in your notebook

2.4 The Earth's spheres II

Read the texts about each layer of the Earth and answer the questions

Geosphere

Atmosphere

Biosphere

Hydrosphere

 Activities:
1) What layer of the Earth has more density?
2) Why is important the atmosphere for life?
3) Why is important the hydrosphere for life?

2.2 The Moon

The Moon is the only Earth's satellite. Its surface is full of craters, caused by the impat of huge nmbers of meteorites. The Moon cause eclipses and tides

The movement of rotation of the Moon takes 28 hour and the movement of revolution takes 28 days too. This do that we allways see the same side of the Moon and we cannot see the dark side of th Moon.

The Moon has four main phases: new Moon, first quarter, full Moon and last quarter.

Activities:

1. Why can't we see the Moon during the period of the New Moon?
